At The Zahra Circle, we believe that every girl deserves to feel a sense of belonging, confidence, and emotional safety.

Our Social Connection & Wellbeing Programme is funded by Kirklees Community Plus designed to support muslim girls and young women who may be feeling isolated, anxious, or unsure in social spaces. Alongside our general events, this programme offers more supported, smaller group experiences for those who may need a gentler and more structured environment.

About the Programme

Find out more about who the programme is for, what’s included, and how to get involved.

  • This programme is for muslim girls and young women aged 12–25 in Kirklees who may be experiencing:

    • Low confidence in social settings

    • Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed in group environments

    • Loneliness or isolation

    • Difficulty accessing mainstream activities

    • Additional needs such as SEND or SEMH

We aim to create a space where participants feel safe, understood, and able to engage at their own pace.

  • The programme offers a range of facilitated social and wellbeing activities, such as:

    • Outdoor wellbeing experiences (e.g. nature-based sessions and stables visits)

    • Small group social outings (bowling, cafés, cinema)

    • Creative and calming activities (baking, crafts, book sessions)

    • Confidence-building and connection-focused sessions

All sessions are supported by experienced facilitators and volunteers, with a focus on emotional safety, inclusion, and positive group dynamics.

  • While we continue to offer open community events, this programme is:

    • Smaller and more supported

    • Designed specifically for those who may struggle in larger or less structured environments

    • Focused on wellbeing, confidence, and connection rather than just attendance

  • As this is a funded programme with limited spaces, we use a simple registration process to ensure the programme reaches those who would benefit most.

Participants (or parents/carers) are invited to:

    • Complete a short expression of interest form

    • Share a little about their needs and what they hope to gain

Places are offered with care to ensure:

    • A supportive group dynamic

    • Accessibility for those who need it most

    • All sessions are free to attend

    • Spaces are limited and prioritised for those who would benefit most from additional support

    • Consistent attendance is encouraged to help build confidence and connection

    • We aim to keep groups small, welcoming, and inclusive

What to Expect

A Gentle Start

We understand that trying something new can feel overwhelming. We take time to help each participant feel comfortable, offering a calm and welcoming introduction to the group.

Small, Supportive Groups

Sessions are kept small to ensure everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. Participants are never pressured and can engage at their own pace.

Meaningful Activities

Each session is thoughtfully planned to support confidence, connection, and wellbeing—whether through social outings, creative activities, or outdoor experiences.

Building Confidence & Connection

Over time, participants begin to feel more at ease, build friendships, and grow in confidence within a supportive and understanding environment.
